My background working as a Counsellor & Psychotherapist

My approach is one that aims to help you feel supported and understood. I offer Integrative Psychotherapy for both individuals and couples. I have many years experience working with: anxiety, depression, sex, stress, addictions, bereavement and relationship issues. My style is both friendly and in-depth and as an integrative practitioner I draw on different tools and models depending on your needs.

Before training to be a therapist I worked as a commercial Designer. I believe we all have the potential and capacity not only to change but also to live the life we would like for ourselves - beyond all the fear, doubt, stress, confusion and upset. It just might take some time to get there and sometimes we just need some help and guidance to find our way.

Below is a diagram explaining my career journey and the transitions ...

As a result of doing a Masters degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy I spent several years researching anxiety and self-doubt. From that work I developed a series of effective tools, which both identify the cause and enable freedom from the vulnerability and powerlessness generated by both issues.

How I work

For individuals

We meet on a weekly basis and this can be for a defined period of time or on an on-going arrangement. Our work is confidential and I provide a safe space for you to talk about some of the things that are troubling you. These may be be current or they may be difficulties that you've been struggling with for some time. The aim of our work together is to help you better understand what's going on for you and explore the best ways in which to move forward.

For couples

Often couples who come to work with me describe having lost connection with each other. This loss of connection is very painful and is often at the heart of most relationship conflict. I see much my work as helping couples to find their way back into connection.

Generally, we aren't taught how to be in a relationship or how best to express our needs and fully understand the needs of out partner. What I offer is an opportunity for couples to learn new ways in which to communicate and as a result develop deeper understanding of yourself, your partner and the relationship itself.

The models I use

I draw on various therapeutic models and techniques depending on the needs of my clients. These include Psychodynamic, Imago, Gesalt, Transpersonal, Psycho-sexual, Existential and Transactional Analysis.

What others say
Everyone has a different experience of how psychotherapy has benefited them. Here is what a couple of clients have offered about their own experiences...
“Talking therapy has helped me find some order during a very chaotic and difficult period in my life. Simply saying the words helped shine some light but the real benefit for me was putting structure to my thoughts and feelings. Being in an environment without an agenda and without judgment helped me better understand myself.”

“Through therapy I have learned that all the answers are inside myself, that I have the solutions. I have learned techniques to tap into them and to trust myself and my own insight more. Instead of running away from myself when I am panicking about something, I can now turn towards myself and face the difficulties I might be facing with more confidence.”
